December 15th - Candlelit
Greetings, Blogmonauts! December 15th's entry is a classic candle centrepiece with some beautiful poinsettias around the base.
Candles are a huge part of the winter months, and the festive season especially, in the Imaginary Friends Games studio a.k.a. our house. We have stacks of candleholders around every room, and as soon as night falls (and often well before that, if the day is especially overcast) we're right there in a cozy cocoon with the golden glow of cheap tealights. During December they're joined by enough fairy lights to constitute an electrical parade, and with some home-made chai tea added to that, the snuggly revolution is thoroughly underway.
Candles are bloody expensive though, and we're skint indie devs, so...with the purchase of a set of spare wicks and the creative use of an oil burner that was ostensibly for fragranced oils, we have a constantly whirring wheel of recycled candles at our disposal. Bolstered by a pile of cheap castoff waxy lumps picked up from the car boot sale, we've done a ship of Theseus affair with some candle wax for weeks, possibly months now.
Poinsettias make less of an appearance however, being something that wasn't really readily available during our childhoods, but when we moved to Germany for 10 years (long story, but when a certain Italian plumber asks you to move country, you oblige for a while) they were absolutely everywhere!
Originally the advent calendar art of the candle centrepiece was just one flame, but augmented for Festive Finds: Happy Holidays Calendar it became a repeated pattern of four candles with some devious differences built in - somehow the repeated patterns are the ones that folk seem to find the most tricksy. Good to know!
Take care til tomorrow, and know that if you light a candle today you'll be joining us in spirit.
Love always,
Fay (and Martyn)

(There's a four candles/fork handles joke in there somewhere but only folk from the UK whose bones are turning to dust will really appreciate it...)
